Far more "inside baseball" than substance in that column. Do voters really care about form over substance? I guess we'll find out how 2d District voters think. Personally, I prefer my candidates telling me what they believe in and why, along with what they propose to do about it (whatever "it" is). Unfortunately, in election after election, it is those candidates who play games more effectively who appear to be the winners. That's why obnoxious issue ads, attack ads, and other dirty tricks continue to be the driving force of so many campaigns. The news media pledge year after year to focus on the issues rather than the horse-race aspects of the campaigns -- then go right back to covering the horse-race rather than the substantive issues. Oh, well, it gives Jim Spencer something to write about, and some of us regulars something to comment on. Otherwise, it might be very boring.

I have seen both Jared Polis and Joan Fitz-gerald speak, but from what little I know about Will Shafroth, I hope that he wins in the 2nd CD. Unfortunately, I can't vote for him, since I live in the 6th CD, which has been "represented" by Tom Tancredo for far too long. Polis, Fitz-gerald, or Shafroth would all be a great improvement over Tancredo, who has said he will not run again here. The Democratic Party isn't even trying to win in the 6th district. The last Democratic challenger was Bill Winter, who started out looking promising but did not deliver in the end. We also had a Libertarian candidate, Jack Woehr, who performed far better than Winter did in a debate televised on Channel 12. Woehr is not a typical Libertarian. I have told Jack Woehr that if he runs again, I will support him. The Democrats can't win here and won't even try, so I'll use this opportunity to support someone who actually represents my point of view better than most Democrats are willing to do. I'm tired of voting for the lesser of two evils or the evil of two lessers. I still hope Shafroth wins the 2nd CD. In the end, it's all about money.
