The Democrat convention may pump some money into the Denver economy, just as any meeting that brings as many as 35,000 outsiders to town would. But, it also will be a non-event. I have been to many conventions of both parties going back to the 1970s. They were worth attending when they really chose the party's candidates and really debated and decided on a platform. Today, candidates and platforms are determined well before the convention. Network television doesn't even bother to cover the full sessions, giving viewers a digest of the non-event.

Denver downtown traffic will be severely disrupted by the convention and those who can get out of town (August still is vacation time for many) will be well advised to do so.

I am curious about the purpose of this article. Are you against holding the convention in Denver? Do you lack confidence in Hick? Your attitude seems snide

[...] Jim Spencer: “The promises made in behalf of the 2008 Democratic National Convention are mind-boggling: $160 million pumped into the metro Denver economy, a piece of that financial pie for just about anyone who wants it, the 'greenest, most innovative' presidential nominating meeting in history, 'software to map every venue by the hour,' free speech for protesters and a good time for everyone.
