Well said, Jim.

The hue and cry about "socialized medicine" is especially amusing, since everyone in the state who's making use of Medicare is also making use of "socialized medicine." Their health care is being paid for by the tax dollars of all of us, whether we have our own health insurance or not. Since I'm among those who cannot afford health insurance (last time I checked it would cost me the equivalent of a 2nd house payment), the whining about "socialized medicine" is especially annoying.

Just a couple of facts to put this in perspective...

51 percent of Americans report being able to get a same-day or next-day doctor's appointment when they're sick. What about the French, of whom Americans often make fun? The figure in France is 57 percent.

And by the way, Colorado Republicans are generally to the right (sometimes FAR to the right) of Republicans nationally. An early-summer poll (June) showed that 51 percent of Republicans said they favored universal health care, so even among conservatives, there's strong sentiment for changing our current broken system.

As both practitioners like Rocky White and policy analysts like former Colorado Governor Dick Lamm have pointed out, we currently ration health care on the basis of wealth. It's morally indefensible, and doesn't make financial sense, either.

Hello,

At age soon to be 83 I think I have beat the average. Colorado Springs is building two new (one already built) hospitals. These are beautiful buildings with much luxury so the medicine business must be a good paying business. Contrast that as a retired doctor when going into practice I got 75 dollars for delevering a baby and that included full prenatal and postnatal care.

Finally the poor working people may get health care. As I have said before, the non-working able-bodied on welfare already get it.
And, most importantly, the people who need it the most, the chronically ill, will be able to have medical care without going bankrupt or even worse, dying because they can't afford the medical care.

Health care should be for healing NOT profit. I'm interested in volunteering to work for a single payer system in Colorado. Does anyone know who I should contact? Thank You
